Skeptic North is a fairly large team of writers, and we only expect to get bigger. But really, who the heck do we think we are? We are:

Steve Thoms, Editor-in Chief.
Steve is a professional music teacher living in the Niagara region of Ontario. He studied recorded music production at Fanshawe College, and Political Studies/History at Trent University, where he specialized in political economy and global politics. He is an amateur astronomer, and an award-winning astro-photographer. Steve also runs the blog, Oot and Aboot with Some Canadian Skeptic

Kimberly Hébert, Associate Editor
Kimberly Hébert has degrees in Psychology/Physics and Neuroscience from Mount Allison University and Dalhousie University, respectively. She managed to squeak out a few collaborative publications in the field of neuroscience, but a severe allergy to her research subjects necessitated a change in venue. So after getting her Master of Science degree at Dalhousie, she is now an occupational therapist (license/registration pending)* by trade and a budding astronomer by hobby.

Scott Gavura
Scott Gavura is a registered pharmacist in Ontario, Canada. He has a particular interest maximizing the safe and effective use of medications through patient and health professional education. He also has a passion for debunking quackery that is sold in the pharmacy. He blogs about pharmacy practice and questionable science at Science-Based Pharmacy.
None of his posts reflect the opinions of any current or former employers.

Desiree Schell
Desiree is the host of Skeptically Speaking, the Edmonton-based radio show that asks you to call in and question everything. She has never quite grown out of the "but why?" stage of childhood development, and considers skeptics the people least likely to be annoyed by this kind of behavior. Her fondest wish is that one day math will suddenly make sense to her, with no effort whatsoever. It's good to dream.

Jonathan Abrams
Jonathan Abrams is the latest founder and president of the Ottawa Skeptics. He organizes local events, makes media appearances as the token skeptic, and is one of the website maintainers. He is the host of the skepticism podcast The Reality Check. When he's not thinking about science and skepticism, he's working as a computer engineer, playing pinball, or doing the dishes.

 Kennedy Goodkey
Kennedy is a film-maker, actor and writer. He has no formal science-training, but he strives to keep the science right in his fiction. He writes impolite posts at "Confessions of an A**hole Skeptic". He is a Jedi school drop out and puts the skills learned there to good use as he is always ready to pick a fight in the name of reason.

Jesse Brydle
Jesse Brydle, from Vancouver, BC, is a life-long science nerd who has always been drawn to controversy, so skepticism was an inevitable outcome. He studied Physics at UBC, and he currently works with computers (surprise surprise) in the non-profit sector, and has been involved with the Centre for Inquiry in Vancouver as a volunteer organizer for a little over a year.

Jamie Williams
An alleged member of the Illuminati, Jamie claims he is merely a software developer, having studied Computer Science at the University of Tasmania.
Half Welsh, half Australian, Jamie moved to Vancouver, Canada in 2007 after living in England, Wales, Cyprus, Australia, the United Arab Emirates and France.
Jamie volunteers as Coordinator of the Vancouver branch of the Centre For Inquiry, and tries to remember to update his blog 'Acataleptic Didactics' from time to time.

Mitchell Gerskup
Mitchell Gerskup is an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto studying Economics & Philosophy. An avid atheist and skeptic, he currently serves as President of the University of Toronto Secular Alliance, helping to promote science, reason and critical thinking on campus and abroad. Mitchell is also an accomplished competitive debater, having debated all across Canada. He is currently a member of the Executive of the Canadian University Society for Intercollegiate Debate. In addition to issues of economics and philosophy, Mitchell is interested in the fields of science and technology.

Melany Fulgham
Melany proudly uses the titles of both geek and nerd. As a science-enthusiast and fan of debate, Melany likes to get her facts straight. She graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Chemical Engineering, and since then her career path has meandered to its current spot interning at a video game studio. Melany lives near beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia with her husband and Boston Terrier. She is not seeking treatment for her caffeine addiction.

Ethan Clow
Ethan Clow, born and raised in the Vancouver area, is best known in the skeptical community as Ethan “the Freethinking Historian” co-host of Radio Freethinker, a skeptical podcast and radio show on CiTR in Vancouver.

Ethan graduated with a B.A. in History from UBC in the fall of 2009 and has an active role with skeptical movements in Vancouver and British Columbia. He was an executive member of the UBC Freethinkers, a campus club that promotes skepticism and critical thinking. He still maintains a close relationship with the UBC Freethinkers and helps plan events and organizes skeptical activism as best he can.

Marion Kilgour
Marion is a Mechanical Engineer-in-Training and has always been fascinated by why people don't question their beliefs more.

Max Morin
Born in Québec, and raised in British Columbia, Max is an IT professional who lives and works in Vancouver. Being completely self-taught in his field, Max is one of the few contributors who have not received any post-secondary educations, but he has never let that stop him. Skeptic North is Max’s first serious attempt at blogging, but is ardent about doing his part to help the skeptic movement in Canada. He is passionate about science and technology, particularly internet culture, physics and astronomy, even though the math often eludes him.

Michael Kruse
Michael is a semi-retired theatrical lighting designer, having worked for 15 years and across the country in Canadian Theatre. He re-trained as a paramedic at the University of Iowa, and now works as a primary care paramedic in York Region, just north of Toronto, Ontario. Michael is currently working toward a Bachelor of Science at Athabasca University and writes the Anxiolysis blog.

Aysha is a research specialist/librarian from Toronto. She has an Honours BA in English and Anthropology and a Master of Library and Information Science. She has recently rediscovered her itch to learn about the world. Aysha has always been intrigued by why people believe what they do and has learned to question her own beliefs while questioning others. She likes to knit and read, among other librarian-like activities.

Nathan Hinman
Nathan is a member of the Edmonton Skeptics and board member of the Society of Edmonton Atheists, and maintains an online presence as Northernskeptic. Nathan seeks to network and educate to dispel myths and misconceptions and promote the wonder of science.

Jeff Orchard is an associate professor of computer science at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. He has degrees in mathematical nerdism from Waterloo and UBC, and got his PhD in computing science from Simon Fraser University in 2003.

Jeff is 99% atheist, 1% agnostic, and is passionate about teaching critical thinking.  One of his research goals is to understand how the brain works (and then use that knowledge to take over the world).  He has published academic papers in image processing, and is also an evolution buff.
